"Overall, I think any opportunity to expose people to art on a mass level — to have some kid in Oklahoma say to his mother, 'I want to be an artist' — is a good thing." -Jeffrey Deitch, Art Dealer & Curator
I've spent my career immersed in street art and graffiti, working with artists on mural projects, brand partnerships, gallery shows, and just about everything in between. I ran a large creative warehouse art studio space where local and international artists came to paint incredible pieces. I watched my friends transform the cities walls year after year, and lead several public art projects for organizations like The Downtown Denver Partnership. I've spent countless hours walking and skating through the streets of RiNo enjoying the murals and graffiti, watching trains roll through the neighborhood has become like a daily art museum to me.
For a long time, all of that knowledge stayed with me, aside from a few tours for clients, businesses, friends. If you knew me, you got the stories and random art facts. Now I'm opening it up to the public.
I believe knowing a little bit about an artist changes how you see their work. A mural stops being just paint on a wall and becomes a story, about the person who made it, the neighborhood it lives in, the culture it came out of. When people learn who's behind the work, they start to value it differently. They look for it. They protect it. That shift, multiplied across a city, is what makes street art matter beyond the wall itself.
That's the whole idea behind Street Art Strolls. I want to spend time with people who love this art or are curious to learn more about it, and hand them the knowledge I've spent years collecting — the artists, the history, the techniques, the reasons a wall looks the way it does.
I've also spent too many years on the other side of this, working with people who default to whatever's cheapest and easiest, without understanding what a real artist partnership can do for a space, a brand, or a block. Part of why I do these tours is to change that. The more people understand the value artists bring, the more artists get paid fairly, get real opportunities, and get found by the people who love their work.
Neighborhoods like this don't hold still. Walls get painted over, buildings get torn down, artists move on. Over the years, this neighborhood has quietly built up a collection of world-class art, and I want to show it to you while it's still standing. Come walk it with me!
